Don Bender (Lee, Kilrain)
Don was last seen in the side project's production of The Lives of the Pigeons. Previously at Lifeline, he appeared in The City & The City, The Woman in White, Pride and Prejudice, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and The Mark of Zorro. Other recent credits include Frost/Nixon (TimeLine Theatre), Dancing at Lughnasa (Seanachaí Theatre Company), The Little Foxes (Shattered Globe Theatre), Our Enemies (Silk Road Rising), One Fine Day (Stage Left Theatre), and The Night Season (Vitalist Theatre). He received a Non-Equity Jeff Nomination for his performance in City Lit’s production of Old Times. Over the course of the last 30 years he has worked with such companies as Writers Theatre, Next Theatre, American Blues Theatre, Circle Theatre, the Hypocrites, and many others.
Matt Fletcher (Troubadour)
Matt is thrilled to make his Lifeline Theatre debut with these fine gentlemen. Matt proudly serves as Producing Artistic Director of Sideshow Theatre Company, where he was most recently seen in Idomeneus at the DCASE Storefront Theatre (Non-Equity Jeff Award: Best Ensemble); other performance credits include Failure: A Love Story (Victory Gardens); Heddatron, Strangerland, Theories of the Sun, Everything Freezes: another winter's tale, and Dante Dies!! (and then things get weird) (Sideshow Theatre Company); As Told by the Vivian Girls (Dog and Pony Theatre Company); and two seasons with The Lost Colony on Roanoke Island, NC. Matt is a proud graduate of the University of Virginia, where he received his BA in Drama.
Joe Flynn (Fremantle, Vincent, Harrison)
Joe received his bachelor’s degree from UCLA’s school of Theater, Film & Television and his MFA in acting from The Theatre School at DePaul University. With ARC Theatre, Joe has been a lovelorn duke and a jealous, buck-hating husband; understudying at Victory Gardens, he became a clown with The Lord Chamberlain’s Men; he spoke in tongues with Interrobang Theatre Project; and he is jolly well pleased to be here at Lifeline Theatre representing Her Majesty The Queen. Joe was certified in fake-fighting under the supervision of the SAFD and improvises with The Regulars.
Chris Hainsworth (Buford, Taylor)
Chris has been a proud member of the Lifeline ensemble since 2010. Roles at Lifeline include Oliver in Talking It Over, Israel Hands in Treasure Island, the Marquis De Carabas in Neverwhere, Edmond Dantes in The Count of Monte Cristo, Dhatt in The City & The City, and Athos in The Three Musketeers. Next up he will be playing Barsad in A Tale of Two Cities. He also adapted Hunger for the Lifeline stage and will be adapting Terry Pratchett's Monstrous Regiment in the spring of 2014. Other roles around town include Frank in Faith Healer (Uma Productions), Mott in The Artist Needs A Wife (the side project), Robbie in Scenes from the Big Picture (Seanachaí), and The Dreams in the Witch House (WildClaw Theatre). Chris is also Ensemble Emeritus at Strawdog Theatre, where he appeared in Julius Caesar, Merchant of Venice, Impossible Marriage, Knives in Hens, Detective Story, and Marathon '33.
Tom Hickey (Longstreet)
Tom appeared previously with Lifeline in The Mark of Zorro. As a company member of Strawdog Theatre Company he has appeared in many productions, including The Master and Margarita, Conquest of the South Pole, Uncle Vanya, Aristocrats, St. Crispin's Day, Puntila and Matti, Cherry Orchard, and Detective Story. Other Chicago credits include The Pillowman (Redtwist), Dirty (The Gift), Thieves Like Us (The House), The North Plan (Theatre Wit), A Bright New Boise (LiveWire), Scenes from the Big Picture (Seanachaí), Book of Days (Steep), and Back of the Throat (Silk Road).
Zach Livingston (Tom, Sorrel, Stuart)
Zach makes his Lifeline debut in The Killer Angels. Chicago credits include Oracle Theatre (Zero), Commedia Beauregard (A Klingon Christmas Carol), Infusion Theatre (Soul Samurai, Fight Girl Battle World), Buzz22 (She Kills Monsters at Steppenwolf Garage Rep), and First Folio (Romeo & Juliet). Zach holds a B.A. in Theatre from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Niall McGinty (Armistead, Hancock, Devin)
Niall is excited to be working with Lifeline Theatre. Chicago credits include: Crime Scene (Collaboraction); Macbeth (The Massive); Accidental Rapture (16th St. Theatre); Ghosts of Atwood (MPAACT); A Memory of Two Mondays (Eclipse Theatre Company); Kill the Old, Torture Their Young (Steep); Scenes from the Big Picture (Seanachaí); Dolly West’s Kitchen and The General From America (TimeLine); The Defiant Muse (Victory Gardens); Hyde in Hollywood (Shattered Globe); Letters Home (Griffin); and Hecuba (Chicago Shakespeare Theater). Regionally, he works often at the Hippodrome Theatre in Gainesville, FL, where credits include Eurydice, The Glass Menagerie, Proof, The Play About the Baby, Romeo and Juliet, The Diary of Anne Frank, and Macbeth. Niall hails from Texas, but calls Chicago home after ten years here.
Michael McKeogh (Chamberlain)
Michael is very pleased to be making his Lifeline Theatre debut. Other Chicago credits include: Farsari/Dmitri in Concerning Strange Devices From the Distant West (TimeLine Theatre); Dr. Greenberg in Freshly Fallen Snow (Chicago Dramatists). Regional credits include: Algernon in The Importance of Being Ernest (Play Phare Theatre, NYC) and Roderigo in Othello (Boston TheatreWorks). In 2012, Michael received an MFA in Acting from The Theatre School at DePaul University. He is represented by Paonessa Talent.
Steve O'Connell (Pickett, Trimble, Reynolds)
Recent Chicago credits include Coriolanus (The Hypocrites; Non-Equity Jeff Nomination: Actor in a Principal Role); Pygmalion (Stage Left/BoHo); Hostage Song (Signal Ensemble); The Kid Thing (Chicago Dramatists/About Face); as well as Ghosts, The Elephant Man, and Floyd Collins with BoHo Theatre, where he is an Artistic Associate. Other Chicago credits include work with TimeLine, Red Tape, Circle, Metropolis, Infusion, and Theatre Wit. Regional credits include work with Madison Rep. and The Milwaukee Chamber Theatre. Film and television credits include Low Winter Sun (AMC), Chicago Fire (NBC), The Mob Doctor (FOX), and Last Man Standing (Lifetime). Steve received an MFA in Acting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Sean Sinitski (Ewell, Bucklin, Hood)
Sean was member of the late Defiant Theatre, where he performed such roles as Hamlet, Macduff, and a guy that got his thumb stolen in Action Movie: the Play! Other Chicago credits: Lifeline (The Three Musketeers, The Moonstone, Neverwhere, Treasure Island, The Picture of Dorian Gray); Stage Left (Rabbit, Fellow Travelers); Chicago Shakespeare (Timon of Athens, The Madness of King George); Strawdog (The Merchant of Venice, Detective Story, The Cherry Orchard); Next Theater (Accidental Death of an Anarchist, The Love Song of J. Robert Oppenheimer); Hypocrites (Henry V, Balm in Gilead); Silk Road (Back of the Throat, Caravaggio); Writers Theater (The Doctor’s Dilemma); Lakeside Shakespeare (King Lear).
Luke Daigle (Understudy)
As a Civil War buff, Luke is elated to be a part of The Killer Angels. Recent credits include Twelfth Night (Oak Park Festival Theatre), Big Love (Strawdog), and When the Rain Stops Falling (Non-Equity Jeff Award: Best Production, Circle Theatre). This winter Luke will be returning to Remy Bumppo for An Inspector Calls. He has also worked at First Folio, BoHo, and Illinois Theatre Center.
Volen Iliev (Understudy)
Volen is excited to be back at Lifeline after recently appearing in The City & The City. Other Chicago credits include: understudying In Darfur (TimeLine Theatre), The Trojan Women Project (Rivendell Theatre), Fresh Eyes Project (Red Tape Theatre), The Reckless Ruthless Brutal Charge Of It or The Train Play (WAFF Theatre), and Let X (Nothing Special Productions). He was also the lead of the short film Dispatch, which screened at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Volen received his BFA in Acting from the University of Illinois.
Eddy Karch (Understudy)
Eddy has an MFA from the Theatre School at DePaul University. This is his first time working with Lifeline Theatre. He has been working in the Chicago theatre community for the past four years. He is a company member with Cock and Bull, and is honored to be a part of theatre in this great city.
Royen Kent (Understudy)
Royen is excited to make his debut with Lifeline. Recent Chicago credits include: Henrik in A Little Night Music (Writers Theatre), Fidele in Death Takes a Holiday (Circle Theatre), Soldier in Othello (Shakespeare Project of Chicago), Woody in Six Degrees of Separation (Eclectic Theatre), and Ensemble/Swing in Cymbeline (First Folio Theatre). He’s a proud alumnus of Vanguard University of Southern California, where his performances include Souvenir, Twelfth Night, and the title role in Romeo & Juliet.
Dan Maxon (Understudy)
This is Dan’s first production with Lifeline. He was baptized in the acting fires of the Conservatory at Act One Studios, where he performed in such shows as Wintertime and Boys’ Life. Other recent credits include the role of Herb in Strawdog Theatre’s The Petrified Forest, Dave in Brightside Theatre’s Company, Johann Most in New Suit Theatre Company’s Emma, and Shrek in the Southwest Michigan Symphony’s Shrek: The Musical.
Karen Tarjan (Adaptor)
Karen is honored to return to the Lifeline fold and continue an association which began 20 years ago when she appeared as the Princess of Reason in The Phantom Tollbooth. Other Lifeline credits: The Left Hand of Darkness (actor); The Island of the Blue Dolphins and The Fellowship of the Ring (Movement Director); The Two Towers (co-adaptor with James Sie), The Overcoat, The Return of the King, and The Killer Angels (adaptor). Karen is a founding member of the Beau Jest Moving Theatre of Boston and Seanachaí Theatre in Chicago. She is an Artistic Associate of Wildclaw Theatre and has served as Movement Director/Choreographer for many of their spooky productions.
Matt Miller (Director)
Originally from Kent, Ohio, Matt is a Chicago based director and teacher. Recent stage credits include the critically acclaimed revival of Superior Donuts with Mary Arrchie Theatre Company, The Weir for Seanachaí Theatre Company, Oblivion and 4000 Miles (staged reading with Deanna Dunagan) for Steppenwolf’s First Look Repertory, the world premiere of A Girl With Sun In Her Eyes for Pine Box Theater, and the world premiere of Graceland for Profiles Theatre (Non-Equity Jeff Award: Best New Work). Matt is also a proud fifteen-year company member with Barrel of Monkeys, a theatre group that provides creative writing workshops for Chicago Public Elementary Schools that lack arts funding. Next up: The Seafarer for Seanachaí in November.
Shelby Glasgow (Stage Manager)
Shelby is so excited to return to Lifeline after stage managing for Fillet of Solo earlier this year. Other Chicago stage management credits include The Burden of Not Having a Tail, Maria/Stuart, Idomeneus (Sideshow Theatre Company); lady M. (the side project); and Broken Glass (Redtwist Theatre). Shelby received her BFA in Stage Management from the University of Central Florida. Upcoming projects include A Tale of Two Cities here at Lifeline.
Benjamin W. Dawson (Production Manager)
Prior to coming to Chicago, Ben served as the Production Safety Coordinator with The Santa Fe Opera and as Art Director for several television series with networks like Discovery, PBS, MTV and VH1. In Chicago, Ben has served, among other things, as Production Manager for Pine Box Theater and WildClaw Theatre; as Technical Director Haven Theatre and The Strange Tree Group; and as the Scene Shop Foreman at Goodman Theatre. In addition to his work with Lifeline, Ben is also a Company Member and the Production Manager for Sideshow Theatre Company and the Assistant Technical Director for Lookingglass Theatre Company.
Alan Donahue (Scenic & Properties Designer)
Alan lit The Killer Angels when it was first produced on the Lifeline stage in 2004, so he opted to tackle the scenery design with this revival. He has designed over 190 theatre/opera/dance productions over thirty years of nationwide practice — productions ranging from the intimate and environmental to grand scale multi-set spectacles. He has also produced more than additional 160 designs for industrial theatre, trade shows, video, museums, and themed public and commercial spaces. But his artistic home for the last 23 years has been Lifeline Theatre. Alan received Jeff Citations/Awards for his designs of The Little Sister, Jane Eyre (2001), Around the World in 80 Days, Mariette in Ecstasy, and Neverwhere. For Lifeline, Alan has also created literary adaptations: Donald E. Westlake's Trust Me on This and Adam Langer’s Crossing California for the MainStage; Daniel Pinkwater's Bongo Larry & Two Bad Bears and Eileen Spinelli's Sophie's Masterpiece — A Spider's Tale for KidSeries. Locally his design work was seen this summer at The Factory Theatre ('Namosaur!) and this fall he designs at Remy Bumppo (An Inspector Calls). Come October, Alan heads to Dollywood to supervise the installation of his designs of a new adaptation of A Christmas Carol (with music and lyrics by Ms. Parton.)
Elise Kauzlaric (Dialect Coach)
Elise has been a member of Lifeline’s artistic ensemble since 2005. She has coached dialects for numerous Lifeline shows, including The Killer Angels (2004), Busman’s Honeymoon, The Moonstone, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Mark of Zorro, The Island of Dr. Moreau, and The Piano Tuner. Around town and regionally she has coached for TimeLine, Seanachaí, Signal Ensemble, Pegasus Players, Backstage Theatre, the hypocrites, Griffin Theatre, and the Michigan Shakespeare Festival. She has been twice nominated by the Jeff Committee for her dialect work, for Busman’s Honeymoon (Lifeline) and Punk Rock (Griffin). Elise also works as a director: Dancing at Lughnasa (Seanachaí); Pride and Prejudice, The Woman in White, Wuthering Heights, and Mariette in Ecstasy (Lifeline Theatre, Non-Equity Jeff Nomination: Director). As an actor, she has worked with the Goodman, Lifeline, City Lit, Circle Theatre, First Folio, Apple Tree, and Griffin (On the Shore of the Wide World, Non-Equity Jeff Nomination: Supporting Actress). Next up at Lifeline she will direct the spring production of A Tale of Two Cities.
Clare O'Connor (Assistant Director, Dramaturg)
Clare is super-thrilled to make her Lifeline debut, and her assistant directing/dramaturgy debut, all in one production! She graduated in May from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a degree in fiction writing and painting/drawing. Last April, a one-act play she wrote, Tremendously Happy Five Minutes Ago, was produced at St. Olaf College. She can be found saying somewhat funny things in Second City’s Conservatory program, as well as in the feature film The Delicate Art of Birdwatching. Offstage-and-screen, Clare draws dogs for money and writes emails for free.
Julian Pike (Lighting Designer)
Julian is a freelance lighting designer based in Chicago. Design credits include: The Magic Flute, Moscow, Cheryomushki, Teseo, Medee, and He/She for Chicago Opera Theater, and two seasons as Lighting Supervisor/Assistant Lighting Designer. Julian was the Lighting Apprentice at the Lyric Opera of Chicago from 2008-11, where he had the opportunity to assist several world-renowned lighting designers. Lighting Designer for Opera in the Ozarks under Vern Sutton's direction from 2002-2005, and Roger Cantrell in 2009. Other lighting design credits include Chamber Opera Chicago, Chicago Folk's Operetta, Porchlight Music Theatre, Seanachaí Theatre Company, Griffin Theatre Company, Bailiwick Chicago, The Strange Tree Group, Aloft Aerial Dance, Inaside Chicago Dance, Mordine & Co. Dance Theatre, Wild Claw Theater, Pine Box Theatre, and Evanston Children's Theatre, among others. He holds an MFA in Theatrical Design & Technology from the University of MissouriKansas City and is member of United Scenic Artists Local 829.
Greg Poljacik (Fight Choreographer)
Greg has been working as a teacher and choreographer for over a decade. He has been instrumental in the training of thousands of theater students and professionals worldwide and has provided award-winning choreography for over two dozen theater companies in Chicago. Currently Greg teaches stage combat at The Second City Training Center in Chicago, the International Stunt School in Seattle, and works as a Sword Cutler for Rogue Steel. Greg has also been a guest lecturer at Columbia University Chicago, and asked to teach at Regional workshops across the U.S. He is a certified teacher with the United Stuntmens Association, a member of SAG/AFTRA, the Society of American Fight Directors, AGMA, Asylum Stunts, and LBP stunts. All of his work in the art of stage combat follows the principles of "Safety, Story, Substance."
Mike Przygoda (Music Director)
Mike is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and recording producer throughout Chicago. During the day, he accompanies dance classes at the Chicago High School For The Arts. In the evenings, he produces recording sessions for local Chicago bands for Speed-Fi Productions and can be seen playing with The Nightcleaners, The Przmatics, and Mike Ps & The Cool Breeze at a variety of clubs and bars. Most recently at Lifeline, he sound designed as well as composed and played most of the instruments on the score for The Three Musketeers. He has received a Joseph Jefferson Award for Artistic Specialization In Percussion (Moby Dick, Building Stage).
Stephen Ptacek (Sound Designer)
Stephen is a Chicago-based composer, sound designer, musician, and playwright. The Killer Angels is his first collaboration with Lifeline Theatre. Stephen is a company member with Dog & Pony Theatre company and Collaboraction Theatre, and has worked with a large host of Chicago's theatre producing organizations over the past eight years. He won a Non-Equity Jeff Award for his sound design for Faster by Adam Rapp in 2008. Stephen's next projects include Breach by Dog & Pony at The Den Theatre, directed by Krissy Vanderwarker; and an upcoming workshop of his own play, School for Excellence. Outside of the theatre, he composes music for films, spins jazz records on his radio show Free Association on WNUR, and is a percussionist with the Astromusicology ensemble El is a Sound of Joy.
Joe Schermoly (Technical Director)
Joe is a set designer, technical director, and painter. His design work has been seen at Lifeline Theatre (The Count of Monte Cristo, The City & The City), Griffin Theatre (Flare Path, Punk Rock, No More Dead Dogs, Port, The Constant Wife), Theatre Wit (Completeness), Strawdog Theatre (Duchess of Malfi, Master and Margarita, Richard III), Sideshow Theatre (Idomeneus, The Ugly One), Eclipse (Beyond the Horizon, The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek) and more. He has also designed and built shows in London for The Finborough, Bush, and Gate theatres, among others. Joe studied set design at Northwestern University and is a proud Griffin Theatre company member. He has received two After Dark Awards for Outstanding Scenic design.
Elizabeth Wislar (Costume Designer)
Elizabeth has designed over 150 shows and built more than 100 productions in the Chicago area in collaboration with many of the prevailing theaters, opera companies and local universities. Elizabeth graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, BA/BFA, cum laude, and earned an MFA in Costume Design and Technology from Pennsylvania State University. She spent 5 years (1996-1999, 2002) as the Assistant Designer/Head Draper for the annual Baroque Handel Opera Festival in Göttingen, Germany. She received the 2004 Michael Maggio Emerging Designer Award; a Chicago After Dark Costume Design Award for Design for Living and a Non-Equity Jeff Award for An Ideal Husband, both with Circle Theater; and another Non-Equity Jeff Award for Queen Lucia with Lifeline Theatre, as well as multiple nominations. Elizabeth is the owner of Chicago Custom Costumes, Inc.
